blindspot is thee-piece Indie rock band from Boston. Today, they released a music video for "Every Time You Close Your Eyes," the lead single off their upcoming self-titled EP due out in February of 2017.
We talked with blindspot frontwoman Alexa about the band, music video, and local scene.
Crowdsurf Central: When was the band formed?
blindspot: Chris and Alexa were recording covers together and doing open mics for a few years before they began playing gigs and writing serious material around 2013. The band has gone through a few lineups until they found Austin and asked him to be an official member this past fall.
Crowdsurf Central: What music do you have out and where can it be found?
blindspot: We have put out a handful of singles over the last two years and they can all be found on Soundcloud, YouTube, and Bandcamp.

Crowdsurf Central: Which musician(s) have inspired you most?
blindspot: My number one influence is definitely Steven Tyler of Aerosmith. Aerosmith is the first band I ever loved when I first got into music and those feelings have only gotten stronger. Steven’s vocal range, image, and stage presence inspire the way I perform and carry myself in blindspot. Opening for Steven and meeting him after the show this summer was nothing short of a dream come true. - Alexa
Mine would be The Edge from U2 because he uses just the right amount of notes to make a part work and no more. - Chris
Aaron Gillespie was the first drummer I ever saw hit his drums as hard as he could and that passion really resonated with me. - Austin
Crowdsurf Central: Does having a female-fronted band help or hurt you? Have you ever encountered problems?
blindspot: I think it could go either way. A lot of people like it and are impressed, but some don’t get impressed until AFTER they hear us play. A few times I have gotten surprised reactions that I am even in the band, which I’m sure has happened to many of my fellow female musicians. Never judge a book by its cover.
Crowdsurf Central: What are some of your favorite venues and events that you have played?
blindspot: Some of the coolest shows that we have gotten to play are when we opened for Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, Puddle of Mudd, Gin Blossoms, and Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots. One of my most recent favorite shows was actually on my birthday this past September at The Whiskey Barrel Bar in Haverhill, MA where a ton of our friends and fans came out to support us that night. We also ventured out on our first official tour this past spring and travelled all the way down the east coast playing a lot of cool new cities and venues.
Crowdsurf Central: Which local bands do you usually play with?
blindspot: We love playing with Aeronaut Down from Boston and we have gone on tour with The House On Cliff, also from Boston.
Crowdsurf Central: What was the inspiration for this new song?
blindspot: The song is about the internal conflict between the heart and the mind. The heart might be telling you one thing, while the mind is telling you that it might not be a good choice for you after all. We decided to use blindfolds in the music video as a metaphor for “every time you close your eyes,” showing how that inner conflict can hold you back from who you could be.
Crowdsurf Central: Where did you film the music video?
blindspot: We used three different locations to film this video. The room and hallway scenes are from Chris’ dad’s office in Chelmsford, MA, the parking lot scenes are from The Burlington Mall parking lot, and the pool scenes were shot at the Westford Regency Inn and Conference Center.
