Crowdsurf Central Presents: Turnover

“Carelessly you pass the hours Humming songs you heard when you were young.”
“Humming” by Turnover

Turnover, who you may have seen playing on tour with The Story So Far, Citizen, New Found Glory, I Am the Avalanche, or Fireworks over the past few years, did not get where they are now overnight. The song exhibited above is a perfect example of the bright and friendly indie rock that flourishes on their 2015  release ‘Peripheral Vision’. The name of the album perfectly represents the new direction with their history as a band still in sight. Since starting in 2009, the band has released two full-length albums and a slew of EPs both on Run for Cover Records and Broken Rim Records. Similar to that of other bands in their genre, Turnover started out as a young band playing pop-punk songs and gradually transitioned to becoming an indie-rock group; emphasis on the gradually. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with a band experimenting with new ideas and branching out their sound, it seems to be an easy trend of pop-punk/emo bands of the current times to abandon their punk rock roots and become a groovy indie rock/shoegaze band. Contrary to this current trend, Turnover had their familiar yet unique sound lingering in the background of all of their work leading up to their recent releases on Run for Cover Records.  Since 2013, Turnover has released two full-length albums and an EP on Run For Cover. ‘Peripheral Vision’ is their most recent full-length being from 2015, and since then they have put out an EP titled ‘Humblest Pleasures’.

I originally saw Turnover open for pop-punk group Major League (RIP) in 2012 at the Webster Theater in Hartford, Connecticut. At the time, the band had just faced a serious setback - which I honestly cannot remember other than members of the band being injured - which caused the band to perform only with the lead singer and his guitar. As opposed to cancelling their spot on the tour, the decision was made that “the show must go on”. It is these types of ethics that run through deep within the history of punk rock bands which stood out to me at the time and still do today. Turnover may come off as a dime-a-dozen band with their indie rock sound, but they are far from that. I highly recommend giving them a listen.

Listen to:

  • New Scream
  • Cutting My Fingers Off
  • Hello Euphoria
  • Humming

All of the following tracks come from their album ‘Peripheral Vision’. You can also listen to and watch the band perform these tracks on an AudioTree live session on YouTube, iTunes, or Spotify.

SILVER SNAKES PREMIERE NEW VIDEO FOR “LA DOMINADORA” AT REVOLVERMAG.COM

Los Angeles’ breakout rock act Silver Snakes have partnered today with RevolverMag.com to premiere a new video for their fan-favorite track “La Dominadora.” The song is featured on the band’s recently released, critically acclaimed album, Saboteur, which is available now from Evil Ink Records.

“"La Dominadora” is a song about power and consequence. It's one of my favorite songs to perform live because of the tension that develops in such a short time. Sometimes it feels as though the room is in a trance by the end of it which is the ultimate goal of our live performance.” - Alex Estrada

Silver Snakes has quickly become one of rock’s most exciting, emerging bands of 2016. Over the last year the band has performed memorable shows at Rock On The Range, Chicago Open Air Festival, Northern Invasion and tours with the likes of Bring Me The Horizon, Coheed and Cambria and glassjaw among others. The band is currently wrapping up a tour in support of Saboteur with letlive., Seahaven and Night Verses and will head out with Korn and Breaking Benjamin in September. The band has also just announced some headline dates and one off shows with Nothing More. Dates are listed below.

BOSTON MANOR ANNOUNCE RELEASE OF DEBUT ALBUM, ‘BE NOTHING,’ OUT SEP 30TH VIA PURE NOISE RECORDS

UK’s Boston Manor have announced their highly anticipated debut album Be Nothing will be released on September 30th via Pure Noise Records. Produced by Neil Kennedy (Milk Teeth, Creeper, More Than Life) and mixed by Kyle Black (New Found Glory, Set Your Goals, All Time Low), the first song to be revealed from the record, along with its own music video, is “Laika.” A decidedly melancholic composition, it’s a song about inevitable failure; knowing you’re going to lose before you’ve even begun.

A tour supporting Moose Blood comes immediately after the record’s release and Boston Manor have also now announced their first full UK and European headline tour in November and December, with Can’t Swim set to support them. As a band who’ve been absolutely dedicated to their music since their 2013 inception, Boston Manor have previously toured with the likes of Knuckle Puck, Moose Blood and This Wild Life and have played festivals such as Slam Dunk and 2000trees in front of significant and enthused masses. Ultimately, this has manifested in the form of a loyal and ever-expanding fan-base within the burgeoning UK rock scene and beyond.

Boston Manor’s last release was 2015’s Saudade EP – a collection of tracks channeling a generally darker and more downbeat sound than most of their peers and becoming the cornerstone of their career to that point. Be Nothing will prove that Boston Manor are primed to leap to the forefront of the new wave of UK rock bands on an international scale.

NOFX Announce New Album and Premiere First Single

NOFX will release their new album, First Ditch Effort, on October 7 via Fat Wreck Chords. The first single is streaming now. This announcement comes after the band landed a spot on the New York Times bestseller list for their memoir NOFX: The Hepatitis Bathtub And Other Stories.

“This album is more personal than anything I’ve ever done before because once we put everything out there in the book it opened all of these doors are far as what I want to sing about On "Six Years On Dope" It’s like you don’t expect it, what the fuck?... That song reminds me of the Angry Samoans meeting the Bronx and I don’t think there’s anything that sounds like it. A lot of people are going to look at me differently after hearing this album.I think I was more comfortable about being myself on this record and a large part of that is due to my relationship with my wife and involvement in the BDSMworld. I used to live so much of my life in private but I’ve slowly started going to parties and out in public without being embarrassed of my true identity and that confidence just transferred over to my entire life. When you’re dressed in rubber and heels and corset and you’re waiting in line for an Omelette in Jamaica, well, after that there’s nowhere else to go. I went out with El Hefe the other night to a party and I think it was the first time we had ever hung out socially and it was a ton of fun. I think the process of doing the book and the book tour and making this record has brought the four of us together and formed a bond that we never would have discovered otherwise." -Frontman/bassist Fat Mike

Leading up to the release of First Ditch Effort, NOFX's 13th full-length, the band will tour Europe and play sets at Riot Fest. They'll then tour North America in the fall.

IRISH PUNK ROCK LEGENDS THE MAHONES DEBUT NEWLY RECORDED VERSION OF “GHOST OF A WHISKEY DEVIL” AT NEWNOISEMAGAZINE.COM

Irish punk rock pioneers, The Mahones, have partnered with NewNoiseMagazine.com today to premiere a newly recorded version of their fan-favorite hit “Ghost Of A Whiskey Devil.” The track is featured on the band’s upcoming greatest hits compilation called The Very Best: 25 Years Of Irish Punk that will be released on August 26th from Sailor’s Grave Records

Stream “Ghost Of A Whisky Devil” now at NewNoiseMagazine.com: http://bit.ly/2aiB02q

"”Ghost Of A Whiskey Devil“ is a very special song and one of my favorites. I wrote it about my late best friend and musical mentor Barry Williams from Dublin, Ireland. He was the guy who convinced me to form The Mahones for a one off gig on St. Patrick's Day show at his Irish pub in Kingston Ontario, Canada called The Toucan back in 1990. We did the show and it went over so well, that here we are 25 years later!" - Finny McConnell

Celebrating 25+ years of Irish punk rock, The Mahones have re-recorded a selection of favorite songs from their acclaimed catalog for The Very Best: 25 Years Of Irish Punk. From “A Great Night On The Lash” to “Ghost Of A Whisky Devil” the band showcases songs from the last several decades that have become staples in the Irish punk rock scene.

ISLANDER DEBUT NEW LYRIC VIDEO “THINK IT OVER” FEATURING HR OF BAD BRAINS New Tour Dates Announced Power Under Control Pre-Orders Available on Limited Edition Colored Vinyl, Digital, CD Formats

ISLANDER and Metal Sucks are premiering “Think It Over,” the blistering new anthem from the upcoming album Power Under Control. The track features guest vocals from Bad Brains mouth piece HR, and is the follow up to the recently released single “Bad Guy.” Last night ISLANDER kicked off their first tour in support of Power Under Control at the Chicago Open Air Pre-Party, and newly announced headlining and festival dates are below with more coming soon.

Frontman Mikey Carvajal explains the track, “’Think It Over’ is a rally cry anthem to encourage the youth of today to think about their lives and to make good decisions. We are all born with a type of youthful wildness that if we allow to be tamed, will flourish into harnessed power rather than wasted energy. The idea is to be like a saddled horse instead of a frustrated stallion. To have Power Under Control.”

Founding ISLANDER member and vocalist Mikey Carvajal was joined by Love And Death/Korn wunderkind guitarist J.R. Bareis in 2015, leading the band on a powerful new path. The seeds of this relationship were planted during 2014’s Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Fest, when word of ISLANDER’s explosive performances quickly spread to the tour’s headliners Avenged Sevenfold and Korn - who flocked to watch the band almost daily. Bareis, who was then guitar tech for Korn’s Brian “Head” Welch, soon found himself in the role as ISLANDER’s new guitar player. Shortly thereafter, ISLANDER recruited bassist Zeke Vasquez (ex-ForeverAtLast), and after  a couple revolving seats behind the drum throne, newly exited Avenged Sevenfold skinsman Arin Ilejay became a permanent fixture snapping sticks and cymbals behind the kit.

Rolling Stone premiered “Darkness,” the first video from Power Under Control, and Loudwire premiered the follow up video for “Bad Guy.”

CAN’T SWIM PREMIERES NEW VIDEO FOR “COME HOME” AT ROCKSOUND.TV

New Jersey rock band Can’t Swim has premiered a new video for their song “Come Home” today at RockSound.tv. The track is featured on the band’s recently released EP, Death Deserves A Name, which is available now from Pure Noise Records. Fans can purchase the album now at iTunes and http://cantswim.merchnow.com/.

“The music video for “Come Home” came together in a rather accidental way. We were shooting ideas back and forth with Brendan Walter (the director of the video) in hopes that our schedules would some day link up. A shoot of his wound up getting canceled on the same day we played LA, so we capitalized knowing this was our only chance at it. From waking up at 5am, an actress canceling last minute, and almost not getting the location, I’m so impressed with what Brendan was able to do in such short notice. During the day, we kept telling ourselves that we were going to “make it work” and not let the mishaps set us back. I think it ties in quite ironically with the lyrical content of the song, trying to convince someone it’s going to be alright even when the situation looked pretty doomed. I am very happy with how it came out and excited for people to see it." - Chris Loporto (vocals/guitars)

The New Jersey based band was formed in early 2015 and is comprised of Loporto, Chez (guitar), Greg (bass) and Danny (drums). The group melds elements of alt-rock, pop-punk and indie rock for a unique sound that will be an impacting force on the rock scene in 2016.

PURE NOISE RECORDS WELCOMES STICK TO YOUR GUNS TO THE LABEL

Bay Area independent label Pure Noise Records is proud to announce the signing of Orange County, CA based hardcore band Stick To Your Guns. The band joins the company’s stellar roster of bands that includes Four Year Strong, Masked Intruder, Senses Fail, State Champs and The Story So Far among others.

"I can say with a straight face and whole heart that for the first time STYG now belongs to a label that not only we believe is one of the very few relevant labels in underground music, but a label that truly believes in us and what we do. We can talk about logical next steps for the band and we can talk about what an opportunity it is for us, but none of that really matters to me. What matters is that we work with someone who gets what we are trying to do and who will nurture and support those goals. Jake and Pure Noise have always done that. Even before we were part of the "PN Family" he made us feel like we were. I guess it's just official now. I'm very much looking forward to what we can accomplish together." - Jesse Barnett

Formed in 2003, Stick To Your Guns has become a juggernaut in the hardcore underground with seminal records like The Hope Division, Diamond, and their 2015 release: Disobedient. The band now enters the next chapter of their career with signing to Pure Noise Records and a highly-anticipated EP due later this year.
